She is the last of the family to graduate high school, and is waiting to enter college to continue fulfilling her dreams. February 4, 2018 - Mexico
Delmi* in her high school graduation, with her three brothers and Father Philip Cleary
Delmi* is an 18-year-old girl from Mexico City who has recently graduated from high school. She is currently in her year of service and is very excited to begin one of the most important stages in her life: university.
When Delmi was two years old, sadly her mother passed away and her father had to work long hours to sustain their home, so she and her three elder brothers were alone all day without proper meals and supervision. Her father, aware that this situation could lead them to bad company, drugs, or crime, contacted NPH because he knew his family needed the support.
It was at the age of seven that Delmi and her brothers joined the NPH family. Currently two of them have already graduated as engineers. Justo*, the youngest, is almost finished with his year of service in the greenhouse at Miacatlán and will also continue his university studies in the city of Monterrey.
Inspired by her brothers' example and the unconditional love of their father, who visits them whenever possible, Delmi feels grateful to be at this point in her life, as she has felt very supported in her quest to achieve her goals.
In her year of service, Delmi cares for the 9-10-year-old girls, which is something she really enjoys. She says it is fun to hear their stories and play with them. It makes her remember when she was younger, especially how much she enjoyed the holidays, like Day of the Dead and Christmas.
Although she is the youngest and the only girl, the siblings have a good relationship, which Delmi says improved when they entered NPH. By spending more time together at NPH, her brothers began to advise her, help take care of her, and they all spend quality time together.
Delmi is friendly and extroverted; she loves to talk with people. And once you know her, you feel a sensation of warmth; her smile invites good conversation.
Delmi considers that these are perfect qualities for the career she decided to study: International Business. Her dream is to travel around the world and to learn languages such as French and Portuguese. At school, she was always good in English. She would love to visit the international NPH fundraising offices, especially in Europe, and maybe she could even find a job there, so she can continue supporting her NPH family.
