Our Voices: Patrice from NPH Haiti

Patrice loves to learn, so the restrictions caused by COVID-19 frustrated him in 2020. However, in his "Our Voices" letter, he knows that donors and Godparents are looking out for him, even from afar.

Dear the World!

I am 15-years-old, currently in 8th grade at High School at NPH Haiti. The home is called St. Helen, and I came here when I was 6-years-old, because my family having economic circumstances. We lived in a small house in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. I know that NPH is the Spanish name, but in French we call our home Nos Petits Freres et Sœurs, but I like learning how to say Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos. I like learning Spanish, and I also like learning English. English is one of my favorite subjects.

Since I have been part of this family, I feel safe every day. I go school, I study and do my homework, I help working at home and I learn so much at the summer camp. I hope to be a great doctor one day and to take care those who are sick and those who need help, like the children at St. Damien Hospital. We returned to school in September. Sometimes going to school after the holidays is difficult, but this time I was so happy to return.

As everyone is aware, there is an outbreak of a virus called COVID-19. Since 19 March, I have been confined to the NPH home. I have everything I need. The doctors and caregivers teach us about COVID-19 and I follow the entire healthcare guide. I don’t want my NPH family to be sick. At the same time, I help in the kitchen. I have learned to cook a lot of meals. I have learned a lot about health.

I was very worried about my Godparents, as well as my family, as I had not received any news from them. Then in August, the Sponsorship office in NPH Haiti finally got some news from them and told me they were okay.

Our Godparents play a big role in the organization. They help in education, healthcare, and our homes where we live, so they are very important in our lives. We know that our Godparents think about us all the time; we know they love us.

I want to thank all of our donors as well. We are nearly at Christmas and I want them to have fun and to forget about the problems with the virus. We all deserve peace.
